The Price of Power and Generosity: A Thought-Provoking Encounter

A woman approached an egg seller at the market and asked, "How much are your eggs?" "Rs. 5 each," replied the seller. The woman proposed, "I'll take 6 eggs for Rs. 25 or I'll pass." The seller agreed to her offer, explaining, "I haven't sold a single egg today, so this is a good start for me. I need this to make ends meet." Satisfied with her negotiation, the woman left feeling triumphant.

Later, she drove off in her expensive car with a friend, stopping at a foreign restaurant where they ordered extravagantly. Despite leaving much of their food untouched, their bill totaled Rs. 800. They handed over Rs. 1000, instructing the owner to keep the extra as a tip.

To the restaurant owner, this act may have seemed routine, but it raises a poignant question: Why do we assert our power over the poor when purchasing from them, yet show excessive generosity to those who don't require it?

Even if we don't personally need to, it's essential to pay fair prices to those less fortunate. "Paying more for less isn't charity; it's dignity wrapped in a gift."

I understand not everyone will share this message, but if you've taken the time to read it, I believe these thoughts on humanizing our interactions have struck a chord.
